 FEBRUARY 2005

expressions from the desk of the MD

One down, eleven to go! But for now, everybody is back at work, busy making a difference... Exponªntially, I trust!
Are you still working on your new year's resolutions? Here's another one to add... Let us be on the look out for opportunities to grow - personally, in family ties, friendships, health, and don't forget the business! My wish (albeit selfishly, forgive me) is that we grow Exponªnt to be THE COMPANY to work for - offering growth opportunities to our people, value for money to our clients, and the envy of our competition.

We have now grown to in excess of 200 people, more than 30 clients and well established in the market. Did you know?

  • We are one of five companies on SITA's Preferred Vendor List to supply resources to the Government

  • We are one of four companies on TELKOM's Preferred Vendor List

  • We have consultants in six of the nine regions

  • We have offices in Gauteng, Western Cape, Swaziland, Holland and various African countries

  • We represent the following international solutions:

  • Omnix - a tower management solution for the telecoms industry

  • Agresso - an ERP geared for Services

  • UCS's POS - a point of sale solution

  • V-Health - a medical aid administration solution

  • SureFire - our own RFID solution now rolled out in Correctional Services - The only active RF-Tracking solution in the country!

  • 33% of our equity is held by Pytron, a black owned company

  • One of our consultants (Nico van der Merwe) manages one of the five largest projects in the country; in excess of R1bn.

Not bad, considering that we are only seven years old. But then, for this we have to thank one and all of our loyal, dedicated and professional consultants, who are out there, making a difference, Exponªntially!

    New Business

  • The Cape branch is now firmly entrenched with various new projects in the Eastern Cape and in Cape Town - they are now in excess of twenty people! Well-done Hennie. (No applications for transfers will be considered, as yet!!)

  • The contract in Mpumalanga has grown, and we now have a force in that region.

  • The Offshore is kicking in again! A project with CTB is approved in principle and Christo and his team are already in motion. And on the horizon are projects with the Resink Group and the Brink Group. So let's hold thumbs!

  • Some hot prospects are proposals to the Western Cape Government for a PPP Offshore venture (Public Private Partnership), and Celtel in Africa for Omnix.

    On the Projects

  • As mentioned elsewhere, Nico and his team have a huge challenge to roll out new solutions at Telkom. They will have no time to spare for the next 18 months!

  • The DCS project has commenced with the installation at Johannesburg Medium A Prison.

  • The Mpumalanga team has their work cut out to stabilize that environment.

  • The team at Charter is working against tremendous deadlines to develop new releases of their software.

  • And 170 other consultants are all working their butts off to make their difference.

But then, it is that time of the year, when, with renewed energy, it all has to happen. Thanks for your effort!

    At Head Office

  • It is with sadness that we bid farewell to Chris von Maltitz, who has decided to make all the changes in one go - getting married, expecting to become a father and deciding he needs a new challenge. We thank Chris for his contribution over the years and wish him luck. Some of us will miss his wit!

  • We are progressing well with our drive to establish sound policies and procedures, ala ISO 9001. You have all received the questionnaire to provide your input to improve the company, but some are slow to respond. Please do it ASAP - we need your input!

    Social Events

  • The cycle race is off for now - thanks to Radio Jakaranda's indifference! Switch to TUKS or 94.7. Their music is better anyway!

  • The Five Year Club function was a huge success, and it was nice to have all the "oldies" together (all 35 of them).

  • The Social Club held some nice functions last year, but need your support for new representatives now - to get new ideas and ensure a lively spirit amongst us.

  • The Argus is looming and a lot of Exponant'ers are gearing up for it. Let us know if you want to ride in company colours.

OK. Until next time, keep on making those contributions - Exponantially, of course!

    Marius
