Major new breakthrough for golf estates and hospitality centres

With the 2010 soccer world cup just around the corner and the hospitality industry gearing up for what is going to be one its greatest windfalls ever, South African e-solutions provider Exponªnt have launched a software package that will ensure that tourists and golfers in particular get a world-class experience every time they visit a golf estate or five star resort.

Exponªnt COO Leon Truter, said the package known as IPALS, had shown its mettle in some of the most demanding tourists destinations including Dubai and a number of 5-star hotels in the Gulf and Malaysia (where Ipals was developed).

We were extremely pleased that we were selected by the owners of the suite to represent them in South Africa and we are confident that it is going to turn the management of golfing estates and other hospitality centres upside down and turn them into the world-class tourist destinations that both foreign and local tourists demand.

John Downer who heads up the hospitality sector at Exponªnt said there had been intense interest from the local market and pretty much everybody who had seen it demonstrated wanted to buy it.

"The biggest single advantage is that every single aspect of the estate or resort is run by a single computer system. The points of sale at the pro shop are linked directly to the server as are terminals in the spa, the on-site stores as well as the several bars and restaurants that may be spread over a wide area.

"In addition, the entire package was developed to work in a wireless environment so there is absolutely no need to start stringing new network cable."

The cherry on top is that visitors can walk around and enjoy the resort's facilities without a credit card or a cheque book on them, Downer said.

"When guests arrive, their fingerprints are taken electronically and every time they want to make a purchase be it a new golf club at the proshop or a drink at the bar, all they have to do is provide the attendant with their finger print and the deal is done. It turns the resort into a totally cashless community," Downer said.

The system has been fully customised for South African tax and labour law and has such a user-friendly interface that a minimum amount of training is required to get the resort staff up and running.

In order to get their foot in the door into what Downer said was rapidly becoming a very competitive field, Exponªnt had decided to make either the entire system with all of its modules available on a leased basis or a client could lease or buy only the modules they immediately required and add on modules as they went along.
